(Zea mays, fam. Gramineae)

The corn silk is only gathered from the female flowers.

It contains coagulation or anti-hemorrhagic vitamins – K3, saponozoids, tannins, sugars, ethereal oil, rubber, alkaloids, phytosterols, salicylic acid, potassium and other salts.

Due to the complex chemical composition, it is used in treating various diseases. As a result of the presence of potassium salts, it acts as a mild diuretic and for soothing and removing pains in the bladder, against sand in the kidneys, chronic cystitis, nephritis, and similar illnesses.

The presence of salicylic acid justifies its application as a means for mitigating rheumatic pains.
