Roots (radices) and Rhizomata

Almost all underground organs of plants are picked in early spring or late Autumn, with the following rules applying:

  • annual plants’ roots are gathered during the blooming period or in Fall;
  • in the case of two-year plants, roots are picked in spring or in Fall in the first year, and in the Fall in the second one;
  • perennial plants’ roots are gathered in spring and in Autumn.

Before drying, roots and other underground parts of medicine herbs ought to be cleaned from earth, and remaining parts of surface organs are to be removed, along with the rotten ones.

In case these are longer and thicker, they may be cut into smaller and thinner parts and then dried.
