(Herniaria glabra, fam. Caryophyllaceae)

Smooth rupturewort is short, branched, green plant with circular branches, almost lodged. Flowers are small, yellow-green and sprout from leaf bosom. The plant should be cut with scissors or knife and dried afterwards in draught or shadowy place.

Main ingredients in its composition are triterpenoid saponins; coumarine derivatives – umbelliferone and herniarin; flavonoids and essential oils.

Use

It is used as diuretic and added in diuretic teas, most frequently with bearberry leaves for treatment of urological organs, infections, kidney stone, cystitis, etc.

Alongside bearberry, it can be combined with other diuretics, such as birch leaves, rest harrow root and dried parsley leaves.
