Fenugreek

(Trigonella foenum graecum, fam. Papilionaceae)

The seed is four-sided, prism-like, very hard and bare. It has typical and strong scent, bitter and slimy taste.

It contains mucilage, protein, saponins, tannins, nicotin acid, organically bound phosphor, iron, potassium, non-saturated oil acids, and lecithin.

Use

It is a reputed medicine and is used to strengthen the organism, as it improves the appetite, the number of red blood cells, facilitates digestion and use of proteins, and reduces loss of phosphor and calcium. Therefore is used in the treatment of rachitis, exhaustion, diabetes, osteomyelitis, etc. It is also used to stimulate lactation.
